New leaders needed for Glenfield Carers Group
08-08-2010
It is estimated that there are over 900 unpaid carers looking after family members, friends and neighbours across Blaby District.

Caring is a demanding role, and carers can often find themselves very isolated. Fifteen years ago, the Glenfield Friendship Group for Carers was formed to overcome isolation and provide support and friendship for carers.

The group meets for lunch monthly at The Gynsills pub, Glenfield. ?Being able to speak to others who understand what I?m going through, being able to laugh and not being judged has made life easier,? said group member Maggie, who cares for her husband.

For the 26 members, the group has been a lifeline and enabled them to continue caring for their loved ones at home. However, the group now needs help and support themselves.

The volunteers who have been running the group are having to stand-down for health and personal reasons at the end of the year. In the meantime, the group is seeking a new Chair, Secretary and Treasurer to ensure that they can continue to meet and support new and existing carers.

If you have an interest in supporting carers, and would have a few hours a month to devote to supporting this group in a voluntary role, please contact Sandra Stocks on 0116 272 7669
