Urban Photography by Leicester Forest
21-01-2010
A new exhibition by Leicester Forest Photographic Society showing the urban environment by day and night opened at the Record Office on Monday 18th January.

After last year's theme of Rural Leicestershire the members of the Leicester Forest Photographic Society have turned to the challenge of producing images of the urban environment.

This exhibition shows how they have taken a fresh look at urban life, its streets, buildings and people to produce a collection of stunning and unique images.
The fascinating collection includes many familiar land marks in Leicester, ranging from the Town Hall and The Curve to the former English Electric factory and also includes one or two images from further afield.
Some of the rather more surprising titles such as ?Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men? and even ?A Loo with a View? depict every day life from a very new angle?

Organiser of the exhibition, Tony Danvers said :?We decided that for this year?s exhibition the best way of encouraging people to take an interest in our exhibition was to ask members of our Society to take lots of pictures of urban scenes of Leicester City and Beyond. It isn?t considered to be a competition but a chance for all members of the Socie

ty to produce something personal for the exhibition.? Councillor David Sprason, Cabinet Member for Communities and Wellbeing at Leicestershire County Council commented: ?This a visual feast and represents a wonderful record of modern life in Leicester and elsewhere??

The exhibition is free and runs from 18th January until 18th February 2010 at the Record Office during normal opening hours.
